64 years ago today

I just received a package in the mail from Richard Briggs, author of "Blackhawks over the Danube." He sent me an amazing assortment of things, which I will have to go over and post about. But something struck me--I was looking at a map of the Blackhawks' Fighting Record, and posted at the bottom was a date: returned to New York harbor on June 17, 1945. It was a Monday. Exactly 64 years ago today! The 86th Division returned without Jack. It is historical, and it is sad. But apparently, according to Mr. Briggs, they were the first division to return from Europe, so they were featured on the front page of the New York Times. I will be hunting down a copy of that newspaper!
